Climate Disclosure Standards Board wins Finance for the Future award

The Climate Disclosure Standards Board (CDSB) won the Finance for the Future Award for the Public and Third Sector category at the awards ceremony held in London on 13 October.

LONDON

13 October, 2016

The Climate Disclosure Standards Board (CDSB) won the Finance for the Future Award for the Public and Third Sector category at the awards ceremony held in London on 13 October.

The awarding committee said: "CDSB has delivered something of vital importance that others have spoken about but not acted upon for years. The organisation has worked effectively as part of a collaborative network and acted as a catalyst for the development of a broad reporting framework. This framework demonstrates how traditional financial measures and new – primarily environmental – data can coexist for organisations and the institutions that invest in them."

Mardi Mcbrien, Managing Director at CDSB, said: “We are honoured to receive this further recognition of our work in helping companies to provide investors with the necessary environmental and climate change-related information to make informed decisions. Providing a framework for consistent reporting is crucial in today’s fast-changing environmental policy scene. We will strive to continue our work with international businesses, investors and regulators to advance and align environmental information in mainstream reports.”

The Finance for the Future Awards celebrate and recognise the role of the finance function within organisations, and the wider finance community, in helping to build resilient organisations through embedding environmental and broader social issues into their decision making.

CDSB offers companies a framework to report environmental information with the same rigour as financial information, helping them to communicate more effectively with investors and preparing them for future regulatory changes.

Last month CDSB launched the EU environmental reporting handbook, to help companies navigate the requirements of the EU Non-Financial Reporting Directive and be prepared to integrate non-financial reporting in their mainstream reports.

Last week CDSB was also awarded Sustainability Champion of the Year by the Accountant and International Accounting Bulletin magazines.

About the Climate Disclosure Standards Board

The Climate Disclosure Standards Board (CDSB) is an international consortium of business and environmental NGOs. We are committed to advancing and aligning the global mainstream corporate reporting model to equate natural capital with financial capital. We do this by offering companies a framework for reporting environmental information with the same rigour as financial information. In turn this helps them to provide investors with decision-useful environmental information via the mainstream corporate report, enhancing the efficient allocation of capital. Regulators also benefit from compliance-ready materials. Recognising that it is equally essential to have information about both natural capital and financial capital for an understanding of corporate performance, our work builds trust and transparency needed to foster resilient capital markets. Collectively, we aim to contribute to more sustainable economic, social and environmental systems. www.cdsb.net
