What is this event about?

Climate Disclosure Standard Board (CDSB), CDP, and WWF Germany willdeliver an online workshop on the 18th of March, from 10:00 to 12:00 (CET) aimed at addressing the challenges faced by German companies and finance sector in providing investors with decision-useful water-related and environmental information.

Availability of and access to adequate water resources have direct implications for companies operations and supply chains. Additionally, water-related risks are already materialising, affecting operational and financial performancewith climate change already exacerbating these impacts.

At present, there is an information deficit for stakeholders and investors on the reporting of water-related risks and opportunities, particularly in the mainstream corporate reports. The shortfall in high quality, decision-useful and material water-related information means that investors are unable to allocate capital that can effectively instigate change and ensure resiliency across economies and societies. Additionally, regulators are prioritising climate-related and other environmental mainstream disclosure, including water, to drive climate action and to mitigate other environmental impacts and related risks.

In this contextthis practice-oriented workshop aims to create an opportunity for German companies to gain clarity on the resources available to support effective integration of water-related information into mainstream reporting, and to improve the disclosure of this information to investors in order to inform their decision-making and to make capital allocations that ultimately support the transition to a water resilient and secure economy.

Workshop participants will:

  • Deepen their understanding of how to improve the quality, comparability and coherence of water, climate and environmental disclosures to aid decision-usefulness;
  • Enhance their knowledge on water-related risks and related financial impacts;
  • Understand investors’ expectations on decision-useful water-related information and integration of water in investors’ decision process;
  • Learn about existing resources and tools to support the preparation and effective disclosure of water-related financial information and integration into financial reporting, also in alignment with the recommendations of the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD);
  • Improve their environmental reporting under the EU Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD), and explore challenges and trends within existing reporting; and
  • Understand what good practice in water and environmental reporting looks like through case studies.
